June 08, 2018

BEIJING, June 8 (INP): Port Qasim Power Plant gets fully operated during the month of Ramadan, inspite of intense hot weather, said Chinese company that is engaged in its development. Pakistani employees, as the main force of the plant, have worked hard despite of the intense heat, and Chinese counterparts have also offered their full support to ensure its smooth functioning. During the holy mouth Ramadan, the Management of the Qasim power plant has been making every effort to provide Pakistani employees with convenient working and living conditions The plant till May 26, has been providing the locals with 2.5 billion kwhs of electricity, effectively alleviating the power shortages. Just launched commercial operation on April 25, According to the officials, Qasim power plant is on the stage of high-incidence season of defects and troubles hidden in the equipment It is the first delivered large-scale energy project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, with power generation of 9 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) per year, which has effectively cut Pakistan’s electricity shortfall and generated huge economic and social benefits. Throughout the implementation phase, Chinese companies have, always adhering to the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration, shared advanced technologies and trained local talents. According to the localized management plan of the Qasim power plant project, it will, ultimately, be fully operated by Pakistanis. Power China Resources Limited (PCR), a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, bearing the mission of training Pakistani employees in mind, has enabled them to know well the production management model of the plant as soon as possible, and master core technologies for its operation and maintenance, laying a solid foundation for Pakistani personnel to take over it. In 2016, PCR recruited 100 Pakistani college students and sent them to China to attend thermal-power technology training for free. They have, to date, engaged in key positions and become the main force for the plant’s operation and maintenance. The employees of Pakistan have accounted for as much as over 60% of the total staff of the plant. The work in thermal power station is very special, requiring nonstop power generation for 24 hours. Pakistan, since April end, has endured hot weathers, with the highest temperature reaching46 degrees centigrade, which has led to high power loads and insufficient supply. On May 16th, a systematic power transmission line malfunction struck the Pakistan’s national power grid, causing widespread power outages in many areas including Punjab and Cape Provinces, and affecting some local hospitals, factories and airports. Meanwhile, the loads of the Qasim power plant’s two units, accounted for approximately 10% of the country's total power generation, dramatically changed as a result of the incident. The operating personnel from China and Pakistan, immediately activated the emergency response plan in a calm and decisive manner, ensuring that the voltage and frequency of the power grid, and the parameters of the units keep stable. Notably, Pakistani employees had, in the course of nine-hour handling process, fought hard at the frontline of operation and maintenance, standing byall the time to deal with potential incidents. They had played a key role in maintaining the stability of the power grid, and made great contributions to secure the Pakistani people against the unbearable heat. Obviously, the put-into-operation Gasim power plant has fully embodied the Silk Road spirit of of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration. Standing at the new starting point of commercial operation, employees from China and Pakistan will jointly carry on new missions and continue to achieve new successes, bringing light to the 4 million Pakistani families, and injecting continuous power into Sino-Pakistani friendship.
