China, Pakistan take joint position on peace efforts in AfghanistanBreaking

BEIJING, December 25 (INP): China and Pakistan has taken a joint position on peace and reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan.

Both the countries stood together on bilateral and regional issues, officials said following the meeting of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi here on Tuesday.

Over the years, they have been holding regular consultation for pushing forward the peace process, through various mechanism and diplomatic channels.

During the Tuesday's meeting the two Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral ties and important regional and global issues. The two sides also held extensive talks on establishment of peace in Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi underscored that as neighboring countries and friends of Afghanistan, Pakistan and China strongly support Afghan-led and Afghan owned peace process.

He had arrived here on Tuesday morning on the third leg of his whirlwind three-day four-nation tour, following visits to Afghanistan and Iran.

The foreign minister's tour to Afghanistan, Iran, China and Russia is aimed at taking regional countries on board about Pakistan's fresh push to start the Afghan reconciliation process.

Qureshi was greeted at the airport by Chinese Foreign Ministry officials and held a detailed meeting with his counterpart Wang Yi.

The two parties discussed bilateral relations, promotion of regional connectivity and important regional and global issues. Delegation-level talks were also held between both sides.

Both sides reiterated their determination to adopt a joint course of action for regional peace and stability and to promote connectivity, the officials stated.

Qureshi called the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor an undertaking of extensive strategic importance for Pakistan and the region.

The foreign minister said that CPEC is a reflection of Chinese President Xi Jinping's One Belt One Road vision, and that Pak-China friendship is greatly appreciated both, at a public, as well as government level.
