China expects Pakistan to pursue BRI as per its own interestBreaking

March 08, 2018

BEIJING, March 8 (INP): China expects from Pakistan and other relevant countries to pursue the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as per their own interest. A spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Geng Shuang hoped that the all participating countries in the BRI will proceed from their own interests and make the choices and decisions most conducive to their development needs. He made these remarks while replying to a question at a weekly news briefing. Through the question, the attention of the spokesperson was drawn to the recent report of Washington-based think-tank Global Development Center according to which the loan from China's "Belt and Road" initiative will significantly increase the debt crisis risk in many countries, including Pakistan. Geng Shuang was of the view that as a principle, they generally do not respond specifically to the opinions of the think tank, media and experts. However, he said he would like to state that the Chinese side has put forward the "One Belt and One Road Initiative," aiming at promoting interconnection, promoting international cooperation and realizing the common development of all countries. Many of the participants in the Belt and Road initiative are developing countries. They are often under-developed economically and have relatively large needs and gaps in infrastructure construction. The principle of "building, building and sharing" the "Belt and Road Initiative" has brought new opportunities and possibilities for these countries to make up their shortcomings, overcome bottlenecks, improve people's livelihood and develop their economy. This is an important reason why the "Belt and Road" initiative has been welcomed by most developing countries. In advancing the "One Belt and One Road" initiative, China follows the rules of the market and international rules and attaches importance to the issue of debt sustainability. Last May, the "Joint Communique on the Round Table Summit" and the "Guiding Principles for Financing the Belt and One Road" promulgated by the "Belt and Road Initiative" summit all emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative should take into consideration economic, social, financial, financial, environmental and debt issues Sustainability. Over the past five years since its launch, the "One Belt One Road" initiative has received the response and support of more than 100 countries and international organizations and has become the largest international cooperation platform and the most popular international public product in the world. If it is true that some people say it will bring so much risk, the Belt and Road Initiative will not be so popular and will not make such a big progress. The "One Belt and One Road" initiative is good, the project is not real, and the countries and peoples participating in it have the most say, “ he added. INP/J/AJ
