Rescue operation at Torkham landslide site resumesBreaking

The rescue operation at the site of a landslide near Torkham Border was resumed Wednesday morning. The operation, which was started Tuesday after a landslide, had to be put on hold due to heavy rain and another landslip at night. A landslide near Torkham border caused by heavy rains and lightening buried more than 40 containers and trailers in which at least 6 people have died and rescue work is underway to remove debris to pull out people buried in the mud. All the deceased were from Afghanistan.

According to the Rescue 1122 director general, the rescue operation has been underway for the past 30 hours. Heavy machinery is being used to remove the containers buried under the landslide. Rescue officials from Khyber, Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda and Mardan, and a special team of Pakistan Army, are participating in the search operation. The search operation is going on in a specific way, for further landslides in the area are feared.
