Rasheed sees SC's upcoming verdict decisive for democracyBreaking

April 04, 2023

Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said on Tuesday the upcoming ruling of the Supreme Court (SC) in the elections case will decide between the “democratic life or unconstitutional death of the state”. In a series of tweets, the former interior minister said it would be tantamount to revolt if the apex court’s orders were defied and there was no rule of law and constitution. He said all people and institutions were subject to the top court.

Taking a dig at the government, he said the PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had threatened that the decision of three judges would take the dollar rate to Rs500. “Bilawal keeps saying that emergency or martial law may be imposed. Shehbaz Sharif says the decision of three judges is unacceptable,” Sheikh Rashid lamented and warned that the premier might face contempt of court for defying the orders.

It was constitutional right of the chief justice to take suo motu and remove the registrar, he said. The AML chief said the coalition rulers on one side boycotted the judges but begged to submit arguments on the other side. He said the nation stood by the government, and warned that there would be chaos if public took to the streets. He said Sharif and Zardari families should prepare to face public.
