Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed condolences over the martyrdom of senior ISI officer during an operation in South Waziristan District. In a tweet uploaded on Wednesday, the prime minister said he was deeply saddened by the martyrdom of ISI’s Brig Mustafa Kamal Barki and other soldiers.

“Over brave sons of the soil laid down their lives protecting the country from the enemy forces,” he wrote, adding “Terrorism will be uprooted as it is against the very idea of Pakistan.” According to a statement issued by the ISPR on Tuesday, Brig Barki of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) had embraced martyrdom during an operation in South Waziristan. On 21 March 2023, during an encounter with the hardcore terrorists in general area Angoor Adda in South Waziristan, intense fire was exchanged.

While leading the encounter from the front, Brig Barki embraced Shahadat while seven other personnel got injured, two of them critically. Brig Barki and his team put up a valiant resistance against the terrorists during the encounter and the officer sacrificed his life for the peace of the motherland, the ISPR statement said. The Defence Forces of Pakistan and Intelligence Agencies pledge to reaffirm and demonstrate firm resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism from every inch of the country.
