Monsoon to bring flooding in rivers, alerts PMDABreaking

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to all concerned departments as Meteorological Department forecast monsoon rains for upper catchment areas of Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers on Wednesday.  The PDMA in an alert issued said that the Authority has informed that well marked monsoon low over central parts of Madhya Paradesh may affect the upper catchment of eastern river Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab from Sept 17.  The water flows may increase ion eastern rivers along with their associated nullah/tributaries from Sept 18th. The water lever in the streams connected to rivers may soar causing flood in the area.  PDMA advised to shift the resident of most vulnerable areas to temporary relief camps/safe places as and when required. 

The provincial authority asked health department to mobilize medical team for provision of first aid to the affecteees of urban flooding to avoid the epidemic diseases and relevant department to ensure required dewatering sets machinery available timely to avoid urban flooding.   PDMA also issued fresh details of the inflow and outflow of waters in Punjab rivers.  Last month also, authorities were on alert on Monday as India released another gush of floodwater in the Pakistani rivers, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned that the country was expected to receive “above average rainfall” during the ongoing monsoon season. Officials from the Indus Water Commission of India informed their Pakistani counterparts that 170,000 cusecs water had been released into the Ravi after opening the spillway at the Ujh Barage at 5:30 pm. Pakistani officials said that the water was expected to enter the country by Monday midnight.
