September 13, 2022

The water level has started going down at flooding Manchhar Lake, citing irrigation department sources. “The water level in the lake has dropped by two inches to 122.5 feet,” Sindh Irrigation Department officials said. “The water gushing from Manchhar Lake has submerged 500 villages of 10 union councils in the area,” according to the irrigation department. “The water rapidly discharging into Indus River from four breaches administered at L.S. flood protective Bund at Karampur point,” irrigation department stated. “The floodwater from the lake will discharge into the river within one month period,” department officials said. “Indus River has still been in high flood at Kotri Barrage,” irrigation department said. The water level in the river has now going down at Kotri as the flood flow moving downstream to Indus delta to drop into the sea. Manchhar Lake, spreading over Dadu and Jamshoro districts of Sindh, is the largest freshwater reservoir in Pakistan. It is at the centre of the flooding in Sindh’s districts on the right bank of Indus River, after the water of flash floods from Kheerthar Range drowned the area and changed it into a huge lake, as it could not discharge into the Indus owing to flooding in the river.
