Chinese firms operating in Pakistan have bagged prestigious awards for putting in place the best practices to preserve the environment, according to Gwadar Pro. The 19th Annual Environmental Excellence Awards (AEEA 2022) were presented by the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) in a ceremony held in Karachi. As per the details shared with Gwadar Pro by Ruqiya Naeem, General Secretary NFEH and Project Director AEEA 2022, the Chinese firms including China Power Hub Generation Co., Harbin Electric Int’l (O&M), HUANENG SHANDONG RUYI (PAKISTAN) ENERGY (Pvt.) Ltd., LONGi Solar, and SEPCO III Electric Power Construction Co. received the environmental awards. The Thar coal mining and integrated power plant projects are being executed by Chinese firms including Sino-Sindh Resources Ltd. (SSRL), Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Co. (TCB-1), and Sindh Engro Coal Mining Co. (SECMC).
They also got the awards. SSRL and TCB-1 are owned by Shanghai Electric, while China Machinery Engineering Corp. (CMEC) is a major shareholder and EPC contractor of the SECMC. SSRL, TCB-1, and SECMC are among the early-harvest projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. The Harbin Electric Int’l received two awards, with the second award for tree plantation at its sites. Moreover, Bestway Cement received the award for installing Pakistan largest commercial solar power plants with a combined capacity of over 49 megawatts at its four plants. Modules for the plants were provided by LONGi Solar. In a letter to LONGi Solar, NFEH stated that it was impressed by the company vision and mission towards the implementation of the local and international environmental standards and its compliance at its workplaces.
