Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sent fresh seasonal mangoes as gifts to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi first and then Pakistani premier Shehbaz Sharif. The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad handed over 1,500kg of mangoes to a protocol officer of the Pakistan Foreign Ministry on Monday. This goodwill gift from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has been accepted with thanks by Pakistan. High Commissioner Md Ruhul Alam Sidiqui said this gift of the Prime Minister will add “a new dimension to the diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries and will further accelerate the development of mutual bilateral relations."
According to diplomatic sources, this has been a first gift forwarded to Pakistan by Bangladesh in a long long time. Earlier, the Bangladeshi prime minister gifted mangoes to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former president of Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi. Every year during the summers, mango fever grips India and the entire subcontinent. The beloved ‘King of Fruits’ is the national fruit of India, Pakistan and the Philippines, while the mango tree is the national tree of Bangladesh.
