“E-commerce has become the most popular platform for doing business in China, whether it is domestic business or international business. We hope to contribute to enhancing the understanding of Pakistani enterprises about the dynamics of China’s e-commerce market and facilitate their entry into the enormous Chinese market " said Hussain Haider, Pakistani Consul General in Shanghai. At the webinar on China-Pakistan Silkroad E-Commerce hosted by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, ICT Belt and Road Union, Shanghai Cross-border E-commerce Public Service Co., Ltd and Shanghai Pudong District E-commerce Association, the CG noted that the scale of e-commerce development in China is considerably large, with a volume of over 2 trillion RMB which is equivalent to USD 280 billion in 2022, Gwadar Pro reported on Thursday.
The CG added that a significant institutional arrangement put in place by the Chinese government to facilitate and promote e-commerce is the establishment of comprehensive cross-border e-commerce zones, which provide one-window services and facilitation to the enterprises that import or export via e-commerce. “There are 13 cross-border e-commerce zones in Shanghai alone for which Shanghai cross-border e-commerce public service can be limited is the one a window organization.” Pointing out the advantageous products of Pakistan including handicrafts, natural honey, footballs, nuts and others suitable for e-commerce transactions, he encouraged the Pakistani participants to effectively tap the potential of the Chinese market with the cross-border e-commerce channels.
On the occasion, Mr. Gu Chunhong, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Cross-border E-commerce Public Service Co. Ltd., presented that China’s trade with countries along the Belt and Road continues to be active, and it has achieved full coverage of cross-border e-commerce trade with 29 Silk Road e-commerce partner countries. Gu emphasized, “Pakistan is an important trading partner of China’s Belt and Road and Silk Road e-commerce, and we look forward to further cooperation with Pakistan on expanding channels through cross-border e-commerce and helping Pakistani enterprises to carry out cross-border trade in China.”
Ms Shi Lei, Vice Director of ICT Belt and Road Union and Mr. Huang Yue, Secretary General of Shanghai Pudong District E-commerce Association presented the development of cross-border e-commerce in their institutions and welcomed cooperation between Pakistani enterprises and China through a one-stop cross-border e-commerce platform.
Over 50 Chinese and Pakistani chambers of commerce and enterprises engaged in various sectors, including agricultural products, cosmetics, logistics and others participated in the webinar and shared their willingness and experience on promoting Pakistan-China trade through e-commerce.
