August 23, 2017

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (INP): Former president Asif Ali Zardari has called a meeting in Islamabad in which senior PPP leaders will discuss the government’s attempt to amend Article 62, 63. According to details, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Shah’s visit to Lahore has been postponed. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari have called a meeting in Islamabad in which senior party leaders will discuss the response of the government’s attempt to amend Article 62, 63. Syed Khursheed Shah and Aitzaz Ahsan will brief the party leadership over parliamentary matters. The federal government has formally announced its plan to amend Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution in the wake of disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for failing to declare his un-withdrawn salary from his son’s UAE-based firm under Article 62 of the Constitution. The announcement to amend the controversial constitutional clauses was made by Federal Law and Justice Minister Zahid Hamid in National Assembly on Tuesday. “Article 62 doesn’t specify the time duration of disqualification of any member,” Hamid noted. “In our view, the disqualification period should be under five years.” The law minister further said that the government would take up the matter with the Constitutional Amendment Committee.
