World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) and Descon Engineering Limited have joined hands to remove plastic garbage from the waste-water channels in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the two companies at the WWF-Pakistan Head office, said a press release received by WealthPK.
As per the MoU, Descon Engineering - an integrated engineering services and infrastructure development company - will work to provide a simple, cost-effective, and scalable solution, which will be easy to operate and replicate all over the country. During the initial phase, a prototype solution is being designed, including the construction and installation of this recovery system to ensure effective cleansing of all these drains. Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer, Descon Engineering, Taimur Saeed said,
“This initiative promises long-term ecological benefits by making our cities free of plastic waste.”
He said it was the first-of-its-kind solution in Pakistan and Descon was committed to playing its part to contribute positively to the wellbeing of the country. “We are pleased to enter into this collaboration with a resourceful global agency like the World Wildlife Fund and ensure a sustainable environment for the future,” he added.
With a vision for sustainable development and the well-being of the nation, Hammad Khan said his company was providing better healthcare, education, and socio-economic empowerment for the masses, besides employing the Pakistani workforce.
Director General, WWF-Pakistan, Hammad Naqi Khan said, Pakistan was already suffering the negative impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. “We must come together to restore the ecological balance for a healthier, progressive, and sustainable future.”
He said WWF-Pakistan was pleased to get operational and technical support from Descon Engineering for this valuable project. “We believe that Descon has extensive experience in building mega projects and will prove to be an effective partner for this infrastructure maintenance and restoration project.”
