Pakistan has withdrawn the Regulatory Duty imposed on the import of fresh fruit from Afghanistan, which has been appreciated by the Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI).
PAJCCI Chairman Zubair Motiwala in a statement received by WealthPK said the increased regulatory duty on Afghan fresh produce would have impacted the business community, clearing agents, labour and the general population. Pakistan’s fruit in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces had been completely destroyed by the devastating flood, he explained.
Zubair said it would be ensured that the halted fresh produce was cleared at the Pak-Afghan border quickly and appreciated the timely support extended by Minister of Commerce Naveed Qamar.
The Pakistani government had already abolished all the duties and taxes on the import of tomatoes and onions from Afghanistan to ensure people’s basic needs were met, the press statement said.
