The US values its long-standing relationship with Pakistan and it is the first to the rescue in case of need, said American Consul General Lahore William K. Makaneole. During a ceremony in Multan, he said American investors should explore Pakistan's businesses, particularly the textile sector, because there are several prospects for them to invest.
"During my stay in Pakistan, I discovered that there are excellent chances for American investors to invest here," he stated. The reception was organised in his honour by industrialist Khwaja Jalaluddin Roomi. The latest floods are "obvious confirmation" that the US government has been fighting the disaster alongside Pakistan since the beginning, he said. If both nations increase their investment, the results would be considerably better for them. America wants to improve education and health systems, end the energy crisis and eradicate poverty from Pakistan, he said, adding that his country has been working on various projects in Pakistan for a long time, which is bearing fruit now.
Roomi greeted the American delegation in his speech. The friendship between Pakistan and America is sincere, he added, adding that when a situation arises, both countries rush to each other's rescue. Although there have been ups and downs in ties between the two nations in the past, he stated that the love bond has endured. He added that the American government and the business sector are now more passionate about Pakistan's development and growth than before. He said the US is a major business ally of Pakistan. That’s why the business volume between the US and Pakistan rose to 36pc this year. He requested the US government to reduce the duties on cotton so that the volume of trade between the two countries could increase.
Roomi, a former caretaker provincial minister, said that for the past several years every Pakistani government has taken practical steps to empower women and include them in the development. Currently, he said, American companies are interested in investing in various sectors including technology. There are vast opportunities to increase trade and investment between Pakistan and America. Roomi said good diplomatic relations are the need of the hour to promote the textile industry so that business activities could play an important role in strengthening mutual relations.
