Understanding mathematics must to comprehend IT: moot

November 07, 2022

Development in science and technology, and mathematics is crucial to discover, exploring and unveiling the mysteries of the universe because a solid understanding of mathematics facilitates rational, critical, creative, and problem-solving thought, said speakers at a two-day international conference on “Mathematical Sciences,” which was co-hosted by the Mathematics Department University of Karachi and the Karachi Mathematical Association. National and international scholars presented their articles and presentations during the conference.

They stated that mathematical sciences can be utilized to answer difficulties that arise in scientific fields. They were of the view that the importance of mathematical sciences, which are employed in every age, cannot be understated.

Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi stated that understanding mathematics is essential for comprehending information technology. Algorithms and all artificial intelligence approaches are derived from mathematics. He advised individuals to put in a lot of effort if they want to advance in science and technology.

During his presentation on image registration using the rigid group, Dr Yousuf Taufail from NED University of Technology said that image registration is the process of determining an alignment between two or more pictures so that their appearances match.

Ahmed Raza from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Institute of Business Administration Karachi talked about Abdus Salam, a Pakistani theoretical physicist and briefly described a few aspects of theoretical particle physics and the problem that Prof Salam resolved, besides his monumental contribution to the world of physics.

Karachi and Badin were chosen for the study, which intends to analyse the variability of monthly solar radiation using the Ashrae Model, according to Ateeq Razzaq from the KU Department of Mathematics, who delivered a paper on computation of urban solar radiation using the Ashrae model.

He mentioned that the clear sky Ashrae model contains constants, apparent solar radiation constant, atmospheric coefficient, and diffused sky factor are the central three constant values used to find solar radiation on any surface, either inclined or horizontal.

The amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood is influenced by the amplitude and frequency of breathing, according to Dr Faheem Zaidi from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Federal Urdu University Karachi.

Lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic were highlighted by Dr Adan Khan of the LUMS Mathematics Department, Lahore. According to him, numerous mathematical models have been put up since the beginning of the epidemic to examine the dynamics of Covid-19's spread and assess control measures to lessen the illness burden.

Such models serve two purposes: first, to comprehend the scope of the epidemic and the impact of different management strategies, and second, to forecast the disease burden.

Prof Dr Rakib Elendiyev of Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan made an online presentation.
