U.S. COVID-19 cases top 6,000, deaths surpass 100

NEW YORK, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States has topped 6,000 by 7 p.m. local time Tuesday (2300 GMT), according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
The fresh figure reached 6,420, increasing over 1,000 within hours.
A total of 108 deaths have been reported across the country. Fifty-five of the deaths occurred in Washington state, followed by New York state with 13. ■
