To facilitate infrastructure development, a major project to upgrade transmission and distribution lines in Gwadar has recently been completed, which will enable smooth and uninterrupted supply of 100MW electricity provided by Iran, says a senior official.

Executive Engineer Operations Division Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) Amir Ali Bugti said while talking to WealthPK that the strategic upgrade was a notable milestone for Gwadar city and a critical development for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) given its growing energy needs that will support various downstream projects such as industrial zones, export promotion initiatives, and agricultural uptakes.

He said that upgrading the power infrastructure with doubling the circuits will drive industrial growth, and directly impact communities in the region by improving livelihood opportunities. He said it will be a turning point for the geo-political orientation and economic development of the Gwadar region.

The official said the upgraded transmission and distribution lines in the port city of Gwadar are helping take advantage of the 100MW electricity supply that Iran will provide, which shares a border with Pakistan. According to the official, the upgradation of transmission and distribution lines will provide a much-needed boost to the local energy infrastructure. This, in turn, will help create new opportunities for businesses in the region and improve the living standards of residents.

The upgrade is part of a strategic agreement between Pakistan and Iran, which seeks to develop closer economic ties between the two countries. Under the agreement, Iran will supply electricity to Gwadar, which is a key part of CPEC. The upgrade of transmission and distribution lines will enable Gwadar to receive a more reliable and higher-quality electricity supply from Iran. This, in turn, will contribute to the development of the port city as a regional economic hub, creating new opportunities for businesses and driving growth in the region.

The move has been welcomed by local officials and business leaders, who view it as a positive step towards realising the region's economic potential. The project is also expected to create new jobs and business opportunities for residents of the region. Overall, the upgrade of transmission and distribution lines in Gwadar represents a significant investment in Pakistan's energy infrastructure, providing a foundation for sustained economic growth and development in the region.

The move has the potential to create new opportunities for businesses and local communities, highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships and investments in building a strong and prosperous future for the country.
