TransKarachi and NED University will jointly work on capacity-building initiatives in the areas of transport infrastructure, drainage design, resource optimization and gender mainstreaming. Together, the two institutions will conduct surveys, focus groups, and interviews to increase public awareness of urban public transportation and address gender-based violence. They will also work on research projects and papers with a focus on creating traffic flow models, real-time traffic measurement tools, and smart traffic controls.
For optimal citizen convenience, they will maximise the performance of the whole KBRT Red Line network. In order to complete the $504 million KBRT Red Line project, the Sindh government founded and owns TransKarachi, a public sector business. According to a press release, available with WealthPk, TransKarachi and NED University have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The MoU signing ceremony was held at NED University and was attended by TransKarachi Chief Executive Wasif Ijlal, NED University Vice Chancellor Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, Pro Vice Chancellor and senior faculty members. The NED University, according to VC Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, would help TransKarachi achieve its ambition of constructing a world-class public transit system for the people of Karachi. It generated hundreds of competent engineers each year, and he stated that they will continue to give help in terms of capacity growth and technological capabilities.
"The public may experience certain challenges while the BRT Red Line is being built, but our focus is on the larger picture," he stated. According to Wasif Ijlal, the varsity is a technological hub, and the cooperation would revolutionise Karachi's public mass transit scene.
