The survival of present and future generations will depend upon measures to ward off impacts on climate change today. This was stated by Coordinator to Federal Tax Ombudsman Meher Kashif Younis while speaking to a delegation of environmentalists led by Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad Arain, principal of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Punjab University.
He claimed that Pakistan is paying a terrible price of more than US$30 billion for the wrongdoings of others and is a victim of climate change caused by the highly industrialised nations. Meher Kashif said that the use of high-tech hybrid seeds, the building of dams and water reservoirs, the rehabilitation of flood victims, the repair of infrastructure, and the active engagement of philanthropists in aiding the flood victims are all urgently needed. He stated that the majority of the northern hemisphere is still experiencing extreme heat and drought.
He said that the current drought, which is further upsetting supply systems and driving up the cost of food and energy, serves as a reminder of the necessity of our collective action to combat climate change. “Many European countries including Germany, France, the Netherlands and Denmark have been quietly restarting coal-fired power, embarking on a ‘shift back’ to ramp up carbon emissions, a set-back in terms of joint efforts in reducing emissions on a global scale,” Kashif said.
