Lobsang Sangay, head of the so-called "Tibetan government-in-exile", visited the White House recently. He said he met with the US "special coordinator for Tibetan issues" Robert Destro. Both the website of the "Tibetan government-in-exile", and his Facebook page all flashed the visit as a “historic feat” as it was the first time “in the last 6 decades the head of the Central Tibetan Administration has been invited into the White House".
As of the 25th, the White House has not yet made a statement on Sangay's visit. However, his high-profile behavior of "feeling good about himself" soon led to a slap in the face by former US officials, as well as a frenzied initial criticism from the inner camp of the Dalai clique.
Todd Stein, a former US State Department official who served as the Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights and Special Coordinator for Tibetan issues, quickly busted Sangay’s claim of visiting the White House in a post on Twitter, saying that he only visited the "Eisenhower administration building (next door to the White House),not the White House.”
Lobsang Wangyal, chief editor of Tibet sun, the mainstream media of the "Tibetan government-in-exile", published an article entitled "Sangay’s desperate act for legacy" on the 23rd, which carried out a comprehensive and severe attack on Lobsang Sangay. Firstly, he said that Sangay exaggerated the significance of the visit and deliberately overshadowed the Dalai Lama. The article states that the Fourteenth Dalai Lama is the "head of state" of the "Tibetan government-in-exile". As early as 1991, the then US President George W. Bush met with the Dalai Lama, since then, many US presidents have met with Dalai in the White House in different ways. These meetings "raised the Tibet issue to a global level", however, Sangay's move "deliberately damaged the Dalai Lama's contribution". Secondly, the author expressed strong dissatisfaction with his ineffective "governance" and the failure of his commitment. He said that Sangay failed miserably in all fronts: There has been no dialogue with Chinese leaders, welfare of the people remained as it was, and the worst was the division of the little Tibetan community of around 150,000 Tibetans in exile into two main factions after the 2016 elections. Sangay never attempted to reconcile the divide, but rather dismissed the issue as the creation of just a small group of dissenters, who were to be blamed for the divide. Thirdly, the aim of accusing him of "American democracy" is to gain "political capital" for himself. The article said that Sangay, nearing the end of his term as Sikyong, was now desperate to grab any event to call as part of his record. He even to say that “I have paved the way for the future Tibetan leaders to work with the US government” was a brazenly shameful assertion. The author also said that those lies, desperate acts like these would hamper and trivialize the Tibetan cause and brought mockery upon the Tibetan people. In that regard, the author also asked Sangay to make a "clarification and apologize to the Tibetan people for community for telling such blatant lies."
Meantime, the views of this article are also strongly responded and supported by the overseas Tibetan exiles. Some netizens directly scolded him, saying that “He is a shameless and immoral person who has created doubts and mistrust only. He has damaged our society in many ways due to his deception and misuse of power”; Another comment said “he has failed miserably in all his maiden election manifesto promises of returning Dalai Lama to Potala Palace, unity in the Tibetan community, community sustenance, and innovation. Instead of bringing small Tibetan community together he was instrumental in bringing disunity. That would be his indelible legacy and it is a shame that it is not forced through violence by CCP but it happened under his nose and most avoidable”; Some netizens lamented the so-called democratic politics advocated by Dalai, saying that "our democracy was dying before it starts crawling. A person who has no leadership or personality will only cheat us and act like the president of the United States. A person who has no leadership or personality will be elected to deceive us and act like the president of the United States. "
In recent years, the Dalai clique has frequently staged scandals and farces. Since the COVID-19 has been outbroken this year, the "Tibetan government-in-exile" has been completely unmasked and has no real sense of responsibility. At the same time, the crises faced by the Tibetan exiles abroad, such as the aggravation of survival difficulties, the breeding of discontent and panic, and the confusion and worry about the future prospects, have been strengthened unprecedentedly. Recently, the Dalai clique is facing the election of the Sikyong and Pseudo Parliament. The long-standing contradictions between religious sects and regions in the Dalai clique have intensified again, and the struggle for tearing has started again. Sangay chose to visit the United States at this time with an obvious intention: on the one hand, it was to cater to the "final madness" of Trump's "playing with fire" against China during the power transition period of the Trump administration, which is in line with the "survival philosophy" of the Dalai clique, which has always been at the helm and willing to be a pawn. On the other hand, Lobsang sangay will also face the expiration of power transfer next year. At this time, he begged for help from the United States, it can shift the focus of internal contradictions and relieve the pressure of "governance" of the puppet government. Meanwhile, he can take this opportunity to enhance his "influence" in the new U.S. government and take advantage of the opportunity to seek political backroads and dividends.
As an old Chinese saying goes, "a just cause enjoys abundant support, while an unjust cause finds scant support". It has become an established fact that the Donald Trump administration has been rejected by the American people ahead of time. Instead of repentance, the likes of Sangay have intensified their efforts and slavishly dependent on others. However, facts speak louder than eloquence. Such misdeeds of the Dalai clique are still untenable within them, let alone international moral support. From this point of view, the Dalai clique's recitation of the so-called "Tibet independence" cause in Tibet is nothing more than a joke.
