BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- A total of 113,851 cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide in 110 countries, areas or territories as of 1500 GMT Tuesday, and the death toll has reached 4,015, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The latest updates on the development of the novel coronavirus epidemic in the world are as follows:

KINSHASA -- Health Minister Eteni Longondo of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) confirmed on Tuesday the country's first positive COVID-19 case in the capital Kinshasa.

According to the minister, the confirmed case is a man. All the measures have been taken so that the people in contact with him are tested and possibly put in quarantine to limit contamination.

LA PAZ -- Bolivia confirmed on Tuesday the country's first two cases of COVID-19.

The patients are two women in the departments of Oruro and Santa Cruz, who came to Bolivia from Italy, Bolivian Health Minister Anibal Cruz told a press conference.

ROME -- The novel coronavirus continued to spread in locked-down Italy on Tuesday, with authorities confirming that 8,514 people have tested positive and 631 have died since the epidemic first emerged in northern Italy on Feb. 21.

STOCKHOLM -- Sweden's Public Health Agency on Tuesday raised the country's risk level of COVID-19 spread to "very high."

On Tuesday, 90 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Sweden, bringing the total number of the cases to 350. Among the confirmed, 207 are in the Stockholm region.

CAIRO -- The death toll from the novel coronavirus epidemic in Iran rose to 291 on Tuesday, while Lebanon and Morocco registered their first death from COVID-19 infection.

Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education reported 881 new COVID-19 cases and 54 more deaths on Tuesday. So far, a total of 8,042 people have been infected in Iran, of whom 2,731 have recovered, since the first cases were confirmed on Feb. 19.

NEW YORK -- The U.S. state of New York will set up a containment area in a COVID-19 hotspot and send the National Guard into it to help contain the virus, state Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Tuesday.

PARIS -- The confirmed cases of coronavirus infection have increased by 372 in a day to 1,784, Director-General of Health Jerome Salomon said on Tuesday evening.

ATHENS -- All schools and universities across Greece will be closed for 14 days to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias announced on Tuesday.■
