July 29, 2022

ISLAMABAD, Jul 26: The Tarbela Dam reservoir is rapidly approaching its maximum storage capacity of 1550 feet on Tuesday, the water level of the dam was recorded at 1514.49 feet. The power production of the dam is also reaching near its installed capacity of 4888 Megawatts.

According to information available with INP-WealthPK, the dam’s water inflow was recorded at 244,100 cusec feet and the outflow remained at 161,300 cusec feet. According to the decrements, 17 power generation units of the Tarbela dam are working at full capacity and producing 4,864 megawatts of electricity, which is only 24 megawatts less than the installed capacity of the dam.

It is worth mentioning here that 90 percent of water in the Tarbela Dam reservoir comes from glaciers which start melting at the beginning of the summer season. Till the month of October, increased water inflow in the dam continues. The 10% rest of the water comes from flash floods and rains in various areas of Hazara division and northern areas.
