Rehabilitation work on Quetta-Taftan track underway

Efforts are underway to restore the railway track between Quetta and Taftan within two weeks. Traffic on the track was suspended after a vital bridge collapsed due to heavy monsoon rainfall and the resultant floods. “The rehabilitation of the track and reconstruction of the bridge is going on at fast pace,” an official told the media.

The official said federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique had directed speedy restoration of the railway tracks in Sindh, Balochistan and other affected parts of the country. “Technical staff has been deployed at various sections for repair of the damaged bridges,” he maintained. He said during a briefing to the federal minister, relevant officials said railway track was damaged at 104 locations by the floodwater in Sindh and Balochistan.

The official said railways had suffered huge losses in Balochistan as the floods had damaged an 11-kilometre track from Dera Allah Yar to Jacobabad. He said Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and civil administration were assisting in early restoration of the damaged railway tracks in Balochistan and other provinces. The official said a survey of the affected installations would be done soon for their early rehabilitation. The official said that the technical and non-technical staff of the department was working in three shifts to restore the tracks.
