Qadri announces sit-in on Aug 16 in Lahore

August 11, 2017

LAHORE, Aug 11 (INP): Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman, Dr Tahirul Qadri has announced to stage a sit-in against the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on August 16 on Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said that Nawaz Sharif was shouting like a thief who shouts after committing a wanton act. He said rally of ex-prime minister has converted to a caravan of speedy cars. He was of the view that Nawaz Sharif must avoid waging a fight with the institutions. Quoting the statement of ex-PM Nawaz, in which he said that his government was dislodged not to let them complete the constitutional term, Qadri asked why does Nawaz forget the right to information, social justice and other issues, which were clearly described in the constitution. “We have been demanding justice for three years and the families of the victims can’t wait much longer,” Qadri said. “We request that an unbiased bench of the Lahore High Court is formed in the first week after Eid-ul-Azha for the case,” he added. The PAT chief informed that the decision to stage a rally was made by the families themselves. He added that the participants of the rally would be women only but he would be there to express solidarity with them. “I will decide later as to when I will leave the rally.” He said Punjab chief minister did not submit nomination papers for NA 120 due to fear of disqualification. He vowed to avenge the martyrs of Model Town incident. He said unveiling report of Justice Baqir Najfi is their constitutional right, which is being ruined. The PAT chief pointed out that an Elite Force vehicle had run over a 12-year-old boy at the former PM Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming rally, but the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders had not even bothered to condole with his family. Fourteen PAT supporters were killed and dozens wounded when the police mounted an operation to remove barriers from a road leading to the PAT offices and Qadri’s residence in Lahore’s Model Town on June 17, 2014.   INP/AK
