Punjab to support FIEDMC in colonization of industrial estates

December 07, 2022

Secretary Industries, Commerce, Investment, & Skills Development Department (ICISD) Sohail Ashraf has said that Punjab government will support all the efforts of FIEDMC for the timely colonization of industrial land in M-3 and Allama Iqbal Industrial Estates in Faisalabad. He was addressing the business community of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) when he said that the ICISD will come to the aid of FIEDMC Board for the expeditious completion of the industrial estates project.

He said, “it is very important to complete the ongoing industrial projects in time so that exports can be lifted and jobs can be created for youth. Our industrial estates will also attract foreign investment since Pakistan has huge business and growth potential.” He expressed his satisfaction over the fact that FCCI and FIEDMC were working with full cooperation to achieve the targets of industrial estates’ colonization.

Further, he directed the chairman of the FIEDMC Board to share his ambitious plan and award of contracts for the provision of basic amenities to avoid any misunderstanding. President FCCI Dr Khurram Tariq highlighted the problems being faced by investors and said that some very potential investors had to buy land outside of the industrial zone because of legal hurdles. He said that the government must ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas to the industrial units for their around-the-clock performance.

He added that people are facing land acquisition problems due to the presence of abandoned water courses falling in their plots. “This issue has been successfully resolved in residential colonies but it is still pending in industrial estates,” he said. Khurram Tariq was of the view that establishing an industrial unit in Faisalabad was a very daunting task. He said, “establishment of one-window facility will greatly help the investors.

We need to pool our efforts for the colonization of the industrial estates at the earliest.” Chairman FIEDMC, Wasim Afzal for his part said that “emergency measures have been taken to complete the basic infrastructure and tenders for different works will be floated during this week.” He said that “open competition will be arranged in addition to following the PPRA rules and other modalities.”
