PowerChina helps rehabilitate flood-hit roads, agricultural infrastructure

December 09, 2022

The PowerChina has helped Pakistan rehabilitate the flood-hit roads and agricultural infrastructure. Besides, the company has extended financial help to the flood-affected people, according to a document available with WealthPK. It said in the first phase, the company extended financial help to the people on August 26 to help them rebuild their flood-damaged houses. In response to the call of the Pakistani government, PowerChina made a further donation of $104,000 to the Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund on October 21.

The PowerChina also participated in the second round of donations initiated by the Chinese Embassy. Tents worth about Rs2 million were handed over to the Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry and to a Balochistan-based party at the Chinese Embassy on December 1. The statement said the devastating flooding also damaged the Diamer-Bhasha Dam site, and the project department responded quickly, and after surveying the affected site, formulated a relief plan and sent a rescue team with excavators and other large machinery and equipment to participate in the rescue and relief work, helping local villagers to clean up the collapsed road sections and backfill the irrigation canal foundation.

After four days of reconstruction, the 8km of collapsed roads were cleared and the main road to the nearby villages was restored, thus helping the locals get out of the trouble. Affected by secondary disasters such as landslides triggered by floods, many sections of the Karakorum Highway, the main road to and from the project construction site, were either eroded or actively closed, and the construction and logistical materials required for the project could not be delivered to the site for quite some time. Additionally, PowerChina helped nearly 1,000 local employees affected by floods to return to their hometowns. And the hundreds of employees who could not return to their hometowns due to road blockage, the company provided them with free accommodation and food.
