Placer gold reserves in Indus River to be assessed

January 26, 2023

A project has been started by the Punjab Mines and Minerals Department (PMMD) and the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) to assess the potential for placer gold deposits in the Attock district of the Indus River. The project site in the River Indus near Attock Kurd was visited by PMMD Additional Secretary Waqas Rasheed, as well as representatives of the GSP. Speaking to reporters, he stated that the evaluation project will cost Rs 48.2 million and that a thorough report would be ready by June 2023.

He said that the evaluation project is being carried out with the aid of sampling, induced polarisation, geological survey, and drone technology. He added that as a consequence of the survey, more drilling will be done to sample the underground material in the prospective area. The minerals in the Punjab region are abundant, and each area has unique riches in its geological features and geography, Waqas said.

The province has a wealth of natural resources, yet there is still a critical need for search and discovery. The wise and intelligent use of these resources is essential for growth and development, he continued. The government is doing all it can to promote and advance resource exploration and mining in the province of Punjab, he said.
