Chairman Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) Akhtar Nazir has sought government’s financial support for holding international exhibitions in Pakistan in order to promote the export of handmade carpets, reports WealthPK. He expressed these views while speaking in a meeting to review preparations for the 38th world exhibition to be held in Pakistan next month.
Chairman Carpet Training Institute Pervaiz Hanif, senior central leader Abdul Latif Malik, Vice Chairman Ejazur Rehman, senior executive member Riaz Ahmed, Saeed Khan, Usman Ashraf, Malik Akbar and others were in attendance.
Nazir said owing to the lack of financial support by the government, the PCMAEA had arranged the exhibition with its own resources to give hospitality packages to the foreign buyers despite extremely adverse conditions, keeping in view the positive exposure of Pakistan and promotion of exports. He said a large number of foreign importers from different countries had officially registered to participate in the exhibition.
Nazir said there was a need to promote exports in order to manage the economy. He expressed concern over lack of financial support by the government for organising the international exhibition to promote exports of handmade carpets.
He said in case of government support, best package could be given to the foreign buyers coming to Pakistan. He said many regions, including America, Europe, Australia and Africa, were potential customers for Pakistan's handmade carpets and had officially registered to participate in the exhibition.
He said the Association had managed the resources on its own despite adverse conditions and expressed hope that the exhibition will strengthen the handloom carpet industry which will boost exports.
