PCGA sees 18.6% cut in cotton bales’ arrival at ginning factories

The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) reports in its fresh fortnightly report that till September 15, 2022, ginning companies nationwide have received enough seed cotton (Phutti) to fill precisely 21,86,593 bales, or over 2.1 million bales. This was a decrease of 18.61 percent over the same period of the previous year. According to the PCGA statistics, which WealthPK has also seen, Sindh produced over 1.1 million or 11,09,932 bales during the same period last year, a fall of 35.72 percent. At that time, arrivals were reported at 17,26,612 bales.

Over 1.9 million bales, or 19,27,454 of them, were reported to have gone through the ginning process and been transformed into bales. Punjab saw a surplus of 12.16 percent in cotton arrivals over the same time last year, when arrivals were reported at 9,59,925 bales, or over one million bales, or 10,76,661 bales.

Textile mills bought 17,61,173 bales while exporters purchased 30,80 bales and Trading Corporation of Pakistan didn't buy during the cotton season 2022-23. Sanghar district in Sindh led the way with 7,14,260 bales of cotton arriving, followed by Bahawalnagar district in Punjab with 1,71,816 bales. The country had 570 ginning facilities in operation. There were 4,22,340 unsold cotton bales available at ginning units.
