Pakistan has achieved a milestone in the development of the robotic industry as 13 surgeries have been conducted with the help of robots in a hospital in Lahore recently, WealthPK reports. The new development shows a bright future for the robotics industry in the country. Besides other facilities, the National Centre of Robotics and Automation has been formed for the development of the industry. It is a consortium of 11 laboratories set up in more than 13 universities in the country.

According to a report of Tech Destination Media, a copy of which is available with WealthPK, National Health and Medical Centre Punjab carried out its first-ever robotic surgery. The hospital conducted 13 surgeries using robots. Robots were used by doctors for urology surgeries, four general surgeries and four gynecological procedures. Five special operation theatres have been built for the purpose with an accumulated cost of Rs250 million in the hospital. A robotic surgery and training centre was also inaugurated at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) in March 2022.

The report said that some startups played a vital role in promoting and developing the robotic sector. Bioniks is a social enterprise that makes prosthetic limbs. It wants to provide innovative solutions to the issues of patients in the form of advanced prosthetic limbs. The company also recently provided free bionic arms to 26 deserving people.

Arm Rehab and Adbled Pvt Ltd also want to convert disability into empowerment by using advanced robotic technology. They produce prosthetic arms. Adbled also works on computer numerical control (CNC) machines and their critical components besides providing industrial automation solutions.
