Pakistan's rice export to China increases 3.9% to $132.59 million

April 13, 2022

BEIJING,April 13 (INP): Pakistan's rice export rose by 3.90 percent to dollar 132.59 million in the first two months of this year, Gwadar Pro reported on Wednesday quoting General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC). During the first two months of 2022, bilateral trade has increased significantly and China imported more than 347,434 tons of different types of rice, increasing 18% by volume and $ 132.5 million by worth while last year in the same period it was 294,240 tons worth $ 127.61 million. Commercial Counselor Pakistan Embassy Beijing, Badar uz Zaman hoped that within next few years Pakistan will be largest exporter of rice in the Chinese market. I think Chinese seed and technology, especially color sorter machines, helped increase the export of Pakistani rice to China". He further said that last year China imported about 973,000 tons of rice worth $ 437 million from Pakistan. Badar Uz Zaman further said that Pakistan has become the third-largest exporter of rice to China, adding that they are using traditional and especially social media platforms to provide awareness about Pakistani rice in this market. Shamsul Islam Khan - Former Vice President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Integra Trade and Marketing - told Gwadar Pro that the reason for the increase of rice export to China is that there is no quota system applied to broken rice and the duty is 10%, while Chinese hybrid seed increased the production and cultivation here. "I requested that China should accept more Pakistani companies in the approval list which is now 53 and remove all duties that would help increase Pakistan's export of rice to China," Shamsul Islam Khan added. It is to be noted that last July China’s custom allowed 7 more Pakistani rice units to export rice to the Chinese market. The number of total companies in the approved General Administration of Custom P.R of China list reached 53. It is also worth mentioning that Pakistan's exports to China crossed $ 670 million in the first two months of 2022, which recorded a nearly 23% increase from January to February this year. INP/javed
