Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan up by nearly 3%

The export of goods and services from Pakistan to Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 2.83% during the first five months of the current fiscal as compared to the period of the previous financial year. According to the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the value of the overall exports to Afghanistan was recorded at $213.282 million during the first five months of the current financial year against $207.407 million during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

On a year-on-year basis, exports to Afghanistan, however, decreased by 23.46% and sipped to $48.686 million in November 2022 against $37.263 million in the same month of the previous year. On a month-on-month basis, exports to Afghanistan also declined by 23.73% during November 2022 as compared to $48.860 million in October 2022. According to the data, overall Pakistan’s exports to other countries witnessed a decrease of 2.01% in the first five months of the current fiscal and dipped to $12.313 billion from $12.065 billion.

On the other hand, imports from Afghanistan to the country during the period under review were recorded at $11.523 million against $73.120 million last year, showing a decrease of 84.24%. On a year-on-year basis, imports from Afghanistan also decreased by 94.58% and dipped from $25.368 million in November 2021 to $1.373 million in November 2022.

On a month-on-month basis, imports from Afghanistan to the country dipped by 31.03% during November 2022 as compared to $1.991 million in October 2022. Overall imports witnessed a decrease of 16.15% and dipped from $29.663 billion to $ 24.872 billion.

The trade of goods and services with Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 50.24% in surplus during the first five months of the current fiscal. The surplus during the period under review was recorded at $201.759 million against $134.287 million during the corresponding period of last year, showing a growth of 50.24%, according to the data available with WealthPK.
