Pakistan’s exports of products and services to Afghanistan increased by 10.58% in the first seven months of the current fiscal year (2022-23) compared to the similar time previous year, according to data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). Total exports to Afghanistan between July and January 2022-23 totalled $285.177 million and $257.888 million during the same period in 2021-22.

The exports to Afghanistan likewise climbed 93.26% year over year, from $17.384 million in January 2022 to $33.598 million in January 2023. Nevertheless, compared to the exports of $38.297 million in December 2022, the month-over-month decline in exports to Afghanistan in January 2023 was 12.24%.

Over the course of seven months, Pakistan’s exports to other countries fell 7.40%, from $17.742 billion to $16.429 billion.The country’s imports from Afghanistan, on the other hand, were just $13.389 million during the study period, compared to $105.605 million the previous year, a decrease of 87.32% from July to January (2022-23).

The amount of imports from Afghanistan declined by 99.10% year over year from $15.175 million in January 2022 to $0.136 million in January 2023. According to the statistics, on a monthly basis, the country’s imports from Afghanistan declined by 92.13% in January 2023 compared to the imports of $1.729 million in December 2022.

The total amount of imported goods into the country fell by 20.91%, from $42.297 billion to $33.451 billion. According to trade data, the surplus in goods and service trade with Afghanistan increased by 78.47% between July and January (2022-23) compared to the same time the previous year. The surplus for the reviewed period was $271.788 million as opposed to $152.283 million for the same time the previous year.
