Pakistani businesspeople asked to tap Ethiopian market potential

September 20, 2022

Ethiopian Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula has highlighted the need for enhancing business and economic ties between Ethiopia and Pakistan by knowing fully well the trade potential lying in the markets of both nations. He said that Addis Ababa wanted Islamabad to explore the former’s growth business potential. “Pakistan holds a very important place in Ethiopia, and this could go a long way in helping the two countries boost their partnerships in various sectors, including trade, business, investment and tourism,” he underscored while addressing an event of businesswomen held in Islamabad, reports WealthPK.

Jemal Abdula stressed that socioeconomic uplift of a country hinged on extending opportunities to women to help them become very important contributors to its development. “Women have multiple roles to play in a variety of sectors, including trade, investment, governance and leadership,” he said, highlighting that sustainable development meant that educated women came forward and play their role in a society’s progress. The Ethiopian envoy pointed out that his country under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed had ensured equal representation of women in the country’s parliament.

He said that Pakistan’s export sector would achieve new heights with increasing participation of women entrepreneurs.
He was all praise for Faisalabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, particularly its President, Ms Nighat Shahid, for striving to encourage women entrepreneurs to produce more and more exportable goods. The diplomat said Pakistan should tap the vast and growing Ethiopian market, adding Addis Ababa was ready to give Islamabad a preferred status with a view to boosting bilateral trade. “The reason why our economic potential has not been adequately tapped is the low level of understanding about our respective markets.” He also called for businesswomen to exploit the trade prospects his country was offering. He also announced that Ethiopia Airlines would operate flights to Pakistan soon.
