Pakistan, Sri Lanka urged to jointly work to achieve SDGs

Sri Lanka and Pakistan share the same challenges like climate-induced emergencies, poverty and other socioeconomic issues, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Using each other’s experiences would be a win-win situation for both the countries.

This was stated by Convener of National Parliamentary Task Force on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Romina Khurshid Alam during a meeting with a Sri Lankan delegation led by the country’s State Minister for Finance Priyanatha held at the Parliament House.The Sri Lankan state minister expressed solidarity with the flood-hit people of Pakistan.

He said mutual cooperation and a unanimous approach were essential to transform regional socioeconomic challenges into opportunities.Romina Alam sought the cooperation of Sri Lanka for the students’ exchange programme and enhancing business-to-business contacts between the two countries.

She also pointed out that the health sector in Pakistan could learn a lot from the success stories of its Sri Lankan counterpart, especially in training the world’s best midwives. MNA Zahra Wadood and officials of the Parliamentary Task Force on SDGs were also in attendance.
