Pakistan Needs A Strong Marketing System for Essential Oils

February 02, 2022

By Qudsia Bano ISLAMABAD, Feb. 02 (INP-WealthPK): Essential oils have a significant global market that is rapidly expanding. In 2016, the estimated global market size was USD 6.63 billion, and it is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.7% until 2022. According to another estimate, the worldwide essential oils market has been growing in recent years and is predicted to reach an all-time high of USD 11.5 billion in 2022, with a CAGR of 10.1 percent. Citrus-based essential oils had the largest proportion of this market making 22 percent in 2015. According to industry research, the corn mint oil (Mentha oil) market is predicted to develop at the fastest CAGR from 2016 to 2022. In the local Pakistani market, there is a growing demand for essential oils. They have a substantial international market. Mint, eucalyptus, citrus, and a range of other essential oils are in high demand for use in a variety of pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic goods. Pakistan exported 63 tonnes of essential oils in 2019. In comparison to the previous year, interest in Pakistan’s essential oils (processed category) increased by 61.538 percent in 2019. Essential oil shipments increased by 62% percent between 2017 and 2019, bringing the exporters US$0.42 million. https://trendeconomy.com/data/h2/Pakistan/3301 https://www.selinawamucii.com/insights/prices/pakistan/essential-oils/   The pharmaceutical industry's increased usage of essential oils for their superior antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, and digestive characteristics has increased the global demand for essential oils. Other key drivers of increased essential oil market demand include increased consumer awareness of natural products, increased use of various types of relaxation therapies, and increased demand in the fragrance sector. Lavender, rosemary, ginger, sandalwood, lemon grass, and jasmine are some of Pakistan's potential essential oil producers. Some institutions are attempting to establish cultivation procedures for a handful of these plants. Pakistan Museum of Natural History is one such institution that has successfully raised lavender and rosemary on an experimental basis. Many projects can be established to improve the production process, good agricultural practises, postharvest handling, and extraction process of some high-value essential oil-bearing crops, as well as to disseminate this information to farmers for successful cropping system integration. There is also a need to make efforts to produce sufficient quantities of export quality essential oil to ensure a steady supply to industry and the worldwide market. A strong marketing system and a large-scale campaign to encourage farmers to produce essential oils should also be emphasized.
