National Electric Power Regulatory Authority Chairman Tauseef H. Farooqi has stressed that Pakistan must urgently tap the creative field of electric vehicles (EVs). Addressing a seminar titled "Electric Vehicles Future in Pakistan", he said technology is still in its infancy in Pakistan while the world is fast moving toward researching such features in order to achieve zero carbon emission targets.

The event was organised by NEPRA to educate people on technology breakthroughs in this new growing industry and suitable locations for electric car charging stations in Pakistan. A number of NEPRA and EV academy experts, power sector stakeholders, academicians and others attended the seminar, which was co-hosted by Electrical Vehicles Academy Pvt Ltd.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, addressing the event, praised NEPRA for taking the initiative at the right moment and stated that the government is supportive of promoting electric cars since they would develop tremendously in the next two years.

According to Ammar Hussain Jafri, an expert on new technologies and the founder of the Electric Vehicles Academy, possibilities never wait for anybody, and the usage of electric vehicles in Pakistan is a reality. Pakistan can either rely on foreign firms or lead the region in the manufacture and operation of electric vehicles in accordance with global best practices, he continued.

Saad Ellahi, Director at the EVs Academy and Technology Collaboration Manager in the US auto industry, offered his thoughts on the worldwide rise of EVs and the potential for these cars in Pakistan. He discussed the EVs academy's aim of developing indigenous capabilities in EV technology in Pakistan, as well as how it can equip engineers and technicians in Pakistan for local, regional, and worldwide prospects.

Jolta Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Azim outlined his vision for energising Pakistan's mobility. He stated that 10,000 Jolta motorcycles have been sold in the country to date, as well as the essential lessons learned along the way. He underlined that more attention should be paid to this industry at the highest level in order to establish a supply chain for raw materials and EV production in Pakistan.
