December 26, 2022

Pakistan and Bulgaria should work to improve the trade balance between the two countries. The statement was made by the Bulgarian Ambassador to Pakistan Irena Gancheva, while speaking to the business community gathered in Sialkot under the auspices of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI). She said that Bulgaria had an important geo-strategic location which must be employed by regional countries, adding that Bulgaria is working to help Pakistan regain its GSP+ status for trade with European countries.

She invited the SCCI members to draft a proposal for a single-country exhibition, so that it could be forwarded to the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce & Industry for further process. Irena Gancheva said that Sialkot played an important role in the country’s development. President of the SCCI, President Abdul Ghafoor Malik warmly welcomed the Ambassador and said that Pakistan and Bulgaria have enjoyed friendly relations for the past decades.

He said, “our mutual relationship is based on shared interest, mutual respect and identical views on global and regional developments.” He said, “we value our relationship with the Eastern European countries and we aim to build on our past relationship. Bulgaria has always been supportive of Pakistan in achieving GSP+ status.”

During his speech he suggested a few measures to broaden the scope of trade between the two countries. He said if trade volume between the two countries is to be increased then we need to facilitate single-country trade exhibitions, encourage frequent exchanges of trade delegations, explore joint ventures (JVs) possibilities and sign mutual agreements.
