Pakistan’s leather exports witness 10.43% increase to $621.081m in FY22

ISLAMABAD, July 21: According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) report, the exports of Pakistan Leather Manufactures jumped by 10.43% in the previous fiscal year (2021-22) as compared to the corresponding period of the fiscal year 2020-21, reported WealthPk.   

As per PBS data, the Leather Manufactures exports were recorded at $621.081 million in July-June (2021-22) against the exports of $562.428 million in July-June (2020-21), showing a growth of 10.43%.   

On a Year-on-year, Leather Manufactures’ exports decreased by 8.34% and remained at $54.256 million in June 2022 compared with $59.190 million in June 2021, according to PBS.  

In the meantime, the country's monthly Leather Manufacturing exports increased by 5.60% to $54.256 million in June 2022, compared to $51.377 million in May 2022.

The Leather that contributed to trade growth included Leather garments, the exports of which increased by 10.15% to $315.200 million in the fiscal year 2021-22, compared to $286.153 million in the fiscal year 2020-21. Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the Leather garments exports decreased by 5.75% in June 2022 as compared to the same month of last year. The exports in June 2022 were recorded at $28.689 million against the exports of $30.440 million in June 2021. 

Pakistan’s Leather garments exports increased by 17.55% month-on-month to $28.689 million in June 2022, as compared with $24.405 million in May 2022.

Likewise, the exports of leather gloves increased by 10.6% from $259.710 million to $287.227 million in the fiscal year 2021-22, and other leather products increased by 12.61% from $16.565 million in FY21 to $18.654 million in the last fiscal year 2021-22.

On month-on-month basis, the exports of leather gloves from the country however witnessed a decrease of 5.36% to $24.187 million during June 2022 when compared to the exports of $25.558 million in May 2022.  

In the meantime, the exports of leather gloves decreased by 10.19% to $24.187 million in June 2022 when compared to the exports of $26.932 million in June 2021.The country’s total footwear exports increased by 19.02% to $156.984 million during the fiscal year (2021-22) compared with $131.898 million in the fiscal year 2020-21.

The country’s overall textile exports increased by 25.53% during the fiscal year (2021-22) compared to FY2020-21, reports WealthPk. The textile exports were recorded at $19.329 billion in July-June (2021-22) against the exports of $15.399 billion in July-June (2020-21), showing a growth of 25.53%.

Currently, Pakistan's leather industry is contributing significantly to the national exports and major foreign exchange-earners. It is one of the three most important export sectors, contributing 4% of national income from exports and supporting thousands of jobs.
