Pak-Italy bilateral trade hits €2 billion: ambassador

February 28, 2023

Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Andreas Ferrarese said that bilateral trade between the two countries increased dramatically to €2 billion in 2022, with Pakistan's exports outpacing Italy's imports. Talking to the media after the launching ceremony of Italian made FTP generators in Pakistan, the ambassador said although the Covid-19 epidemic had caused a decline in global trade, Pakistan's exports to Italy increased to €1.2 billion in 2022. Over €800 million worth of Italian exports were sent to Pakistan, he added.

He noted that Pakistan had a trade surplus with Italy and his country would try to take the challenge and recover the next year. The amount of Italian exports is more than the year before, he added. He said Italy has a sizable market in Pakistan, where there are more than 220 million people. “As we hold a unique place in the hearts of our Pakistani brothers, the embassy continues to extend invitations to Italian businesses to visit Pakistan.” He also invited the businessmen to Italy and said Pakistan remains an attractive market for Italian manufacturers and businesses.

He underlined that the Italian Embassy completely supports the businesses of both countries in boosting trade and raising investments. Italian and Pakistani businesses are working together and FPT's Head of Commercial Operations Michelangelo Amelia said that his company has been conducting business all across Asia, yet he feels at home in Pakistan.

Good relationships exist between the two countries, and more will develop, the ambassador said and wished FPT well with its operations in Pakistan. He said that Italian businesses place a high priority on quality and produce some of the best goods in the world. The best part is that quality is valued in Pakistan, he added.

He believed that the economic collaboration is introducing information training, which is impressive, and raising the talents of Pakistani workers. Pakistani nation has a lot of skill, he said. He said more than 1500 visas have been issued by the Italian Embassy to families and business travellers from Pakistan, who used the chance to look into business options.
