CANBERRA, February 18 (INP): High Commissioner for Pakistan to AustraliaBabar Amin, met with the Hon. Kon Vatskalis, the Lord Mayor of Darwin city in his office.
During the call, the High Commissioner expressed the desire to promote cordial relations between major Pakistani cities and the city of Darwin. He briefed the Mayor about the prospects of bringing people together through promotion of business, educational and institutional links.
The High Commission emphasized that owing to the existing friendly relations between Pakistn and Australia, which,were further augmented by our similar institutions and system, the scope for cooperation was enormous.
The High Commissioner also suggested the establishment of Sister-City relationship between Darwin and a Pakistani city.
The Lord Mayor thanked the High Commissioner for visiting Darwin and for looking into means of promotion of friendship and cooperation between the Darwin city and Pakistani institutions. He lauded the Pakistani Community in Darwin and the Northern Territory for its very positively contribution to the development of Australia in all walks of life.
He laid strong emphasis on enhancing the mutually beneficial cooperation in tourism, education, science and research between institutions in Darwin and Pakistan. The Lord Mayor agreed in principle to launch a Friendly City arrangement with a city in Pakistan. He also agreed to support the Pakistani Community in organizing its cultural and social activities.
