Pak-China to enhance cooperation in agriculture sector

ISLAMABAD, Apr. 27 (INP): The second meeting of Pak-China Joint Working Group (JWG) on Agriculture Cooperation under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was jointly held by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research of Pakistan and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (MARA). The participants through video conference decided to enhance bilateral cooperation in agriculture sector. They exchanged ideas and priority areas of cooperation, reports Gwadar Pro App. Both sides re-affirmed China's assistance to Pakistan to relieve the desert locust attack. They also discussed cooperation mechanism on the control of plant diseases and insect pests and the proposed plan of action on Pak-China agricultural cooperation. It was agreed that Pakistan and China will jointly implement the “MoU between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (MARA) and the Ministry of National Food Security and Research of Pakistan (NFS&R).

The MoU is aimed at strengthening cooperation on Plant and Disease Control” and actively promote the establishment of a Center for sustainable management of plant diseases and insect pests in Pakistan.

In addition, the participants made it clear that cooperation will be strengthened in agricultural capacity building, technical innovation, aquaculture, the construction of foot-and-mouth disease-free areas and investment & trade. Representatives from Pakistan’s CPEC Authority and China’s CPEC Secretariat were present at the meeting.
