Over Rs9bn tax flows into E&D coffers

January 06, 2023

The Excise and Taxation Department (E&D), Islamabad, has collected over Rs9 billion tax during the first six months (July 1-Dec 31) of the Financial Year 2022-23, reports WealthPK. Over Rs5 billion has been collected in excise fees and over Rs4 billion in taxes for the FBR, says Director Excise Bilal Azam.

For the first time, he said the excise office had installed interfaces in hotels for bed tax collection, adding that at the same time, record revenue was collected in terms of professional tax. He said another milestone had been achieved in revenue collection after introducing reforms in the tax collection system.

Bilal noted that the department had introduced new methods of tax collection by making payment system online and establishing excise counters at the motor vehicle showrooms. It’s our top priority to promote tax culture among the masses, he added.

He said the motorists were submitting all fees including vehicle token fee, registration and transfer fee through integrating credit cards, bank accounts and other payment methods. Bilal said token fee was also received through the National Database and Registration Authority’s (Nadra) e-Sahulat centres and City Islamabad App across the country without visiting the excise office that helped increase the tax recovery.

The department has also started vehicle registration and transfer on doorstep in collaboration with NADRA as well as mobile registration at open places for the convenience of the public, he said. The excise director said an online appointment system was also introduced for the visitors to avoid long queues. He said biometric facility was also available countrywide and the owner could transfer vehicles by staying anywhere in the country.
