OGDCL makes six oil, gas discoveries in half year

January 10, 2023

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has discovered six oil and gas fields over the past six months, totalling an initial flow of 4,407 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 10.036 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). The OGDCL said that the finds, which came as a consequence of its aggressive exploration strategy, will help to reduce energy demand and supply from domestic resources and expand the country's hydrocarbon reserve base.

According to the information available with WealthPK, the OGDCL reported the discovery of a new gas reserve on June 15, 2022, in Sindh province's district Ghotki. The company discovered the deposit at an exploratory well called Umair South East # 01, where Drill Stem Test-1 in Habib Rahi Limestone (HRL) revealed 1.063 MMSCFD of gas. The company is the operator with 70% of the shares.

The company announced its 11th hydrocarbon discovery on June 22 at the Nim East-1 exploration well in Sindh's district Tando Allah Yar. 1,400 BOPD and 5.02 MMSCFD of gas have been tested in Basal Sand Drill Stem Test-1. On June 22, the company also disclosed the finding of gas at the Kaleri Shum-01 well, which is situated in the Punjab province's tribal district of Rajanpur. The well-flowed gas at a rate of 1.24 MMSCFD during the initial Drill Stem Test (DST) in the Parh and Fortmunro/Mughalkot formations.

On October 27, the OGDCL stated that the Toot Deep-1 well in Punjab's Attock District yielded 882 BOPD and 0.93 MMCFD of gas. On December 19, the company disclosed information on a further hydrocarbon discovery it had made from the Chak-5 Dim South-3 developmental-cum-exploratory well in the Sindh province's district of Sanghar. 2000 BOPD and 1.30 MMSCFD of gas were tested by Drill Stem Test-1 in the massive sand.

On December 22, 2023, the OGDCL announced a discovery at the Kot Nawab-1 exploratory well in Sindh's Sanghar. Drill Stem Test-1 in the Basal Sand has tested 125 BOPD and 0.483 MMSCFD gas via choke size 28/64" at wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 150 pounds per square inch, according to the results of wireline log interpretation.
