OGDCL conducts extensive surveys to discover new reserves

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has carried out 221 Line-km 2-D and 21 Square-KM 3-D seismic surveys to discover new hydrocarbon reserves. These surveys were carried out in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2022-23. According to the quarterly report of the company, it acquired 221 Line km of 2-D seismic data and 21 Sq. km of 3-D seismic data during the surveys.

This represents 49% of total 2-D and 17% of total 3-D seismic data acquisition in the whole country. In addition, the company has also made use of indigenous resources for the processing/reprocessing of 1,065 Line km of 2-D seismic data. It has also carried out 135 Line km of geological fieldwork in Nowshera. The report also says that OGDCL has spud one exploratory well, namely Shahpurabad-1 (1-Q 2021-22: 3 wells), in addition to the completion of drilling and testing of two wells in the last fiscal year.

The report said that the total drilling conducted by the company during the first three months of the going fiscal year stood at 11,392 meters. Referring to the monsoon rains, the report said that, “the planned 3-D seismic survey of 210 Sq. km was affected by torrential rains, whereas 2-D seismic survey of 84 Line km had to be deferred due to security concerns in Zin and Lillah blocks.” Further, the report informed that OGDCL contributed 46%, 30% and 36% towards the country’s total oil, natural gas and LPG production respectively.

Similarly, the average daily net saleable crude oil, gas and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) production remained at 33,443 barrels, 779 million cubic feet and 722 tons. The report stated that the company has recorded a decrease in overall hydrocarbon production in comparison to the corresponding period of the last year due to torrential rains and floods, and the natural decline in reserves at Sinjhoro, Nashpa, KPD-TAY, Chanda, Mela and 6 Dhok Hussain fields.
