RIO DE JANEIRO, (Xinhua) -- Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has guaranteed that he will be fit and ready to resume playing when the French club returns from its coronavirus-enforced hiatus.
Neymar traveled to his native Brazil almost two months ago after all major football competitions in Europe were suspended because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
PSG have since been named Ligue 1 champions after the French domestic season was cut short; however the club is still involved in the UEFA Champions League, where it has reached the quarterfinals.
"I'm here, training hard, with the same intensity and frequency that I would have at the club," the 28-year-old said in comments published on his official website.
"I'm maybe training even harder, with more activities to make up for the lack of games. The aim is to be ready and in the best possible condition when they signal the return of activities at the club. Of course it's not the same as competition but Rica (physical trainer Ricardo Rosa) created a fitness plan that is being carried out to the letter."
Neymar, who has been staying at a mansion near Rio de Janeiro, said that in addition to gym work, he has been playing footvolley and doing other activities with the ball. ■
