The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) under the guidance of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has so far imparted technical training to about 379,350 youth, says an official. In high-tech skills training, around 98,000 youth have been trained in 989 institutes as certified skilled professionals, with 71% employed in artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, etc, said NAVTTC Executive Director Sajid Baloch. He said NAVTTC is making all-out efforts under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program to equip the youth with the latest market demand-driven and technology-oriented income-generating technical skills.
Under the National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF), NAVTTC developed 200 qualifications, and 46,725 personnel have been certified and mainstreamed through recognition of prior learning (RPL) program. The official said the program has opened new horizons for youth seeking early employment. He said the pilot project was first tested in 15 formal education schools in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He said the international accreditation of 10 Pakistani institutes has been achieved and 535 national TVET institutes have been accredited so far. He said 50 smart labs and 500 classrooms have also been set up with Chinese support under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The official said NAVTTC has also established 10 country of destination (CoDs) specific facilitation centres across the country to ensure effective mobilization of skilled workforce overseas. He said Pakistan is blessed to have a significantly large pool of talented youth, and NAVTTC as per the vision of the government is equipping the youth with income-generating skills for economic development and productivity. He added that TVET Accreditation and Quality Evaluation Committee has recently approved the accreditation of 77 more TVET institutes. The official also shared several steps taken by NAVTTC which contributed to national human resource development and generated a large number of employment opportunities for the skilled youth benefiting them as well as the national economy.
He said the government was focusing on imparting quality and demand-driven skills among the youth. He said that NAVTTC had taken numerous steps to organize skills and TVET system of the country on modern lines, and was delivering high-quality training, as per international standards.
