Mobile phones import falls 66.08% in five months

Mobile phone imports fell by 66.08% in the first five months of the current fiscal year (2022-23) compared to the same period the previous year. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $290.570 million between July and November 2022, down from $856.730 million between July and November 2021–22, a fall of 66.08%.

In the meantime, compared to the same month last year, the import of mobile phones fell by 69.57% in November 2022 on an annual basis. When compared to the imports of $65.780 million in October 2022, mobile phone imports fell by 1.92% in November 2022 on a monthly basis.

Merchandise trade deficit decreased by 30.14% over the first five months of the current fiscal year, falling from $20,621 million last year to $14,406 million this year. The exports from July to November 2022 totalled $11,932 million compared to $12,362 million from July to November 2021, a decrease of 3.48%. On the other hand, the country's imports declined over the study period by 20.15%, falling from $32,983 million last year to $26,338 million this year.
