Meta to help Pakistanis avoid e-commerce scams

March 06, 2023

Meta has worked together with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to educate people about e-commerce frauds and disseminate advice on how to be safe online. According to Meta’s Policy Programmes Director for Asia Pacific Region Beth Ann Lim, Meta is devoted to bringing people together, especially by making it simpler for vendors and buyers to locate each other online.

He said Meta feels happy to cooperate with PTA and TDAP as well as local content creators to encourage responsible Internet use and help all users in Pakistan to connect with their preferred companies safely. Creators will give advice in Urdu on various social media platforms to warn both shoppers and sellers about online frauds during the Safer Internet Day, which started on February 7 and will continue through the month of March.

According to Kamran Gandapur, Director General of PTA's Web Analysis Cell, E-commerce frauds continue to be a barrier for both consumers and enterprises. PTA is excited to work with Meta to educate Pakistanis about scams so they can navigate the online marketplace for buying and selling and develop their online communities with greater confidence, he added.
